Tips from the LinkedIn Diva – Maxing Out Connections on LinkedIn?

loriruff

Recently I received a message from a connection interested in open networking, but wondering how to manage all the connections:

Loved your profile and advice. I have not grown my connections aggressively only passively. You said you cannot add connections once your limit is reached. My question is how do you manage new connections if you are maxed out? I have not tried open networking because i didnt want to run out of slots? I am sure you have probably covered this theme somewhere maybe you could point me to a link or something.

I replied:

To begin, the maximum number of connections on LinkedIn is 30,000, which is more than enough for most people.

When a LinkedIn user does get close to the max, I find that sending thank you notes to people for their invitation to connect, even when I can’t, often results in potential client conversations. I also manage the new requests to join my network (about 100 a day) by asking them to follow our company pages and to connect with me on Twitter and my Facebook page.

I guess you could say I’m most active on LinkedIn and Twitter so those are my strongest networks. That goes to show you how important activity is for growth. It is typically when people overhear you saying something that sparks an interest that they desire to follow you.

Hope that helps with your network building! Rock On!
