Today we had the awesome opportunity to sit down and chat with Whitney Parker and Ashley Hoffman of Brazen Careerist and Brazen University. We did some work with them not too long ago when they asked us to work with them on a boot-camp they were putting together about social recruiting.
The business they have put together is just brilliant. The bootcamp we participated in was a two week course with various experts in the social media field, and helped teach recruiters how to find the best talent using LinkedIn and other social media platforms. Their business model is to teach ‘where education left off’. In other words, with the market changing so quickly some of the fastest growing fields are not in areas where colleges offered beneficial courses. They help people learn how to navigate these emerging markets entirely online.
They also use an awesome platform called Network Roulette to offer online networking events, by location, field, and other criteria. The idea is to allow you to connect to someone, and then when you are done chatting, you are automatically linked up to another random person. Rather than just having a giant chatroom where you have to select people to connect to, this allows you to form connections much quicker, taking the in-person networking event online.
Not only do they have awesome ideas, we also got to talk about some awesome music. Whitney’s first concert was a Pearl Jam concert she travelled six hours for! Ashley went to the inauguration concert in D.C. in 2008, and talk about a star-studded lineup! If something similar occurs again, we are so there. Ashley also has a jammin’ sister Andrea Hoffman that we have actually met and had the chance to jam with in person!
This was such a fun show, and we covered so much we can’t possible fit it all, so be sure to listen for more great tips! And don’t forget to tune in Mondays at 7pm!
