Be careful of which social media groups you choose to join. You should not join groups that promote illegal or questionable activities. You should not join groups that you are not really interested in. I will say it again - employers do check your LinkedIn, Facebook, and other online profiles.
If you join want to join social media groups, then choose those that are related to your career path and extracurricular interests. You will have a much better chance of networking successfully. You can find friends and mentors who have similar interests and job roles by joining the right groups and actively participating in discussions.
