Make sure that you do not have anything visible online that is unprofessional!
I might have said this once or twice, but it is worth repeating: do NOT post any comments, pictures, links, or other things online that are unprofessional. This does not mean that you cannot have a personal space on social media websites. However, I do suggest several things if you decide to do that.
First, I suggest that you keep your personal and professional profiles separate. You can use a different social media site for each one or you can have two different URLs (website addresses).
Secondly, I suggest that you lock down your privacy settings for any social media profiles that are not meant for the public (such as your potential employer). You can see my previous post for more on that.
Finally, I suggest that you check to make sure that there is nothing online under your name that is rude, crude, mean, hurtful, or unprofessional. For example, a picture of you and your college friends at a bar smoking and drinking. If you do a search on your name and find something like that, then take steps to have it erased!
